Irina Papancheva has over twenty years of professional experience. Following her MA in Slavonic Studies from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, she worked first as a journalist for various information agencies and websites, including Reuters and Factiva, and then as a leader in the NGO sector.
She has established a couple of non-governmental organisations in Bulgaria, including the Bulgarian Stuttering Association (SIZ) . She has been a Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality in charge of Health Care, Social Services and Integration of People with Disabilities.
She left the municipality to obtain an MA in European Politics and Social Integration from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Belgium. She managed EU advocacy teams in Brussels for ten years and is presently Senior EU Advocacy Advisor at Hope and Homes for Children. Irina Papancheva has delivered various workshops and presentations, including as an external expert for the European Commission.
